1. It’s cheaper than buying supermarket yogurt.
2. It tastes better, not nearly as sour.

3. You can impress your friends and neighbors with your skill and knowledge (or just be that weird person who makes yogurt).
4. More bacteria! Some commercial yogurt makers let their yogurt sit for a very short time, which prevents the helpful probiotic bacteria from growing. Then, to achieve the yogurty texture, they add strange and unnecessary thickening agents.
If the white yogurt you find in the supermarket has anything besides milk, (and possibly cream) and probiotics, such as acidophilus, that’s not true yogurt.

I make our yogurt. We love it.
I'm so glad you posted this. I have been sooo frustrated with store bought yogurt these days and hate buying it. I continue to buy it because I can't get my hands on raw milk to save my life (I live in Canada). After hitting up every grocery in town I found 1, count'em 1 yogurt that doesn't include fillers or sugar! What has happened to our food.
Hi France,
I also can't get raw cows milk, so I make my yogurt from pasturised whole milk. It's less than perfect, but still better than store bought yogurt.
Ha! I am 'just that weird person who makes their own yougurt' :)
Thanks for sharing! I have started making my own yogurt! Visit me at http://raisingdieter.blogspot.com/ for recipes and a giveaway!
