Hi there, I've just been doing some research on pickling and I'm wondering if you need an airtight seal for this kind of recipe? I have some canning jars that are a little older, and the seals are a bit looser. Will that cause problems?

Not at all. I pickled a batch in a regular glass jar - not a special pickling/canning jar - and it was just fine.

In fact, sometimes the pressure builds up inside and it's good to open the jar up during the picking process. If you fill it too high, some liquid spills out. With a hermetically sealed jar, I imagine you could run into trouble if you didn't leave enough room.
